and advisers participate in motivational general sessions and professional
development and career planning workshops. For many FBLA-PBL members, the
NFLCs are a convenient and affordable way to experience much of the
education and excitement of an NLC.

The annual State Leadership Conference (SLC) is NYS-FBLA's way
of wrapping up our yearly program of work (along with that of our chapters)
while taking the first steps into the next year. There is something for
everybody at this conference, which includes:
*The campaigns of all of the prospective state officers, along with the
election, appointment and installation of next year's State Officer Team!
*The wrap-up of the program of work of the State Officer Team, including the
final state committee reports detailing our success over the past year as well
as a fond farewell to our faithful state officers!
*The state level of competition for the extensive FBLA competitive events
program, with New York's finest business students competing against each other
in over fifty individual, team and chapter events! Many of these events are also
offered at the national level through their Competitive Event Program, and top
winners in those events will have the opportunity to represent New York State at
the 2054 National Leadership Conference in Orland, Florida! (For more
information, see the state competitive event guidelines.)
*Thousands of NYS-FBLA members from across the state with whom to talk, learn,
network, dance and sing! (Well, maybe not sing. Unless you really want to. But
there are dances, including the famous Officers' Ball.)
As you can see, the SLC is the cornerstone of New York State FBLA, and is an
invaluable experience for all chapters and members. We would like to see every
chapter attending the SLC, and sincerely feel that every member should have the
opportunity to attend an SLC at least once in his FBLA career.
The NYSFBLA 2005 State Leadership Conference will be held from April
12th-15th 2005 (with early arrivals on April 11th) Kutshers Country Club.
Chapters have to do a lot of planning for the SLC, including coordinating
attendance, travel, costs, voting delegations, campaigns for state officers and
competitive events for competing students. To help with this, we have worked to
make this website a useful tool in learning about and planning for the SLC.

The National Leadership
Conference (NLC) concludes the year's activities and sets the stage for
the upcoming school year. The NLC is held each summer in a major American
city. FBLA and PBL members and advisers participate in business-related
and leadership development workshops, tour business and corporate
facilities, elect national officers, and participate in national
competitive events. The Professional Division holds its annual business
meeting during the PBL National Leadership Conference. The NLC Guide, the
official information and registration form for the conference, is mailed
to local chapters in early spring.
The Institute for Leaders is the organizational and leadership training
session for state and local chapter officers, members, and advisers. Held
in conjunction with the National Leadership Conference, this training
conference prepares student leaders and members to assume their elected
responsibilities and develop valuable life skills.
